Pre-Approval Questions
Will applying really not affect my credit score?⌄
Correct — the Dean McCrary Kia pre-approval application uses a soft credit pull, which is invisible to other lenders and has zero impact on your credit score. Soft inquiries appear in your personal credit report only and do not factor into score calculations. The credit-affecting hard pull only happens at the end of the process, after you’ve chosen a vehicle and agreed to final terms.
What’s the difference between pre-qualification and pre-approval?⌄
The terms are often used interchangeably, but there is a subtle difference. Pre-qualification typically uses a soft pull and gives you an estimated rate range. Pre-approval usually involves a deeper review and a firm offer. Our online tool starts with soft-pull pre-qualification — we shop the lenders, then your finance manager firms up a specific pre-approval offer when you’re ready to move forward.
What credit score do I need to be approved?⌄
There is no single minimum credit score. Dean McCrary Kia works with lenders across the entire credit spectrum — from prime borrowers earning the best Kia Finance America rates, to first-time buyers with no credit history, to applicants rebuilding after bankruptcy or repossession. The only way to know what you qualify for is to apply — and since the credit check is soft, there’s no risk in finding out.
How fast will I hear back?⌄
Most applications submitted during business hours receive an initial response within minutes. Some — especially those requiring additional verification, self-employed income, or co-signer review — may take a few hours or up to the next business day. Apply outside business hours and we’ll have your offers ready first thing the next morning.
Am I obligated to buy a car if I get pre-approved?⌄
No. Pre-approval is informational only — it tells you what rates and terms you qualify for. You can use the information to shop, compare, or simply walk away. There is no commitment until you choose a specific vehicle, agree to final terms in writing, and sign the paperwork. Pre-approval gives you the option, never the obligation.
How long is my pre-approval good for?⌄
Pre-approvals are typically valid for 30 to 60 days, depending on the lender and program. Specific rate offers may have shorter windows if interest rates are moving. Your finance manager will tell you the exact expiration window for your offer. If the window passes before you’re ready, we can run another soft pull to refresh your application — still with no impact to your score.
Can I apply with bad credit or after a bankruptcy?⌄
Yes — Dean McCrary Kia has dedicated credit-challenged programs and works with lenders who specialize in sub-prime, recent-discharge bankruptcy, and post-repossession financing. Approval depends on multiple factors beyond credit score (employment stability, income, down payment, trade equity). Many credit-challenged applicants are approved. Apply and find out — with no credit impact either way.
Can I add a co-signer or co-applicant?⌄
Yes. Adding a qualified co-signer or joint applicant can significantly strengthen your application — lower rates, longer terms, larger approved amounts. Both applicants will need to complete their portion of the application and consent to a soft credit pull. The co-signer assumes equal responsibility for the loan once funded.
Does pre-approval apply to used vehicles too?⌄
Yes — pre-approval covers our entire inventory: new Kia vehicles, Kia Certified Pre-Owned, and our general used inventory of all makes. Rates and terms vary based on vehicle age, mileage, and lender programs, but the application process is identical.
Can I apply if I’m self-employed?⌄
Yes. Self-employed and 1099 applicants are welcome. Income verification typically requires two years of federal tax returns (Schedule C for sole proprietors, or business returns for LLCs and corporations). Bring your most recent two filings to your appointment, or have them available digitally. Our finance team works with self-employed applicants every day.
1Soft credit pull used for pre-qualification has no impact on credit score and is not visible to other lenders. A hard credit inquiry may occur only at final loan funding after vehicle selection and acceptance of specific terms. Hard inquiries may have a small short-term impact on credit score. Pre-qualification is not a commitment to lend or a guarantee of final terms. All financing subject to credit approval and verification of application information.
2Special APR offers from Kia Finance America are subject to credit approval. Not all customers will qualify for the lowest rate. APR offers vary by vehicle, model year, trim, regional market, and program eligibility, and may not be combined with all other incentive programs. See your Dean McCrary Kia finance manager for current Kia Finance America offers, eligibility requirements, and complete program terms.
3Kia Military Specials Bonus Cash requires proof of eligible military service (active duty, veteran, retiree, reservist, or National Guard) and is subject to current Kia program rules. Spouses of eligible military members may also qualify. See your Dean McCrary Kia finance manager for current eligibility and bonus amounts.
4Kia College Grad Rebate requires proof of graduation (typically within the last two years) or upcoming graduation from an accredited college, university, or trade school, subject to current Kia program rules and eligibility verification.
All financing is provided by third-party lenders, including Kia Finance America and Dean McCrary Kia’s bank and credit union partners. Dean McCrary Kia acts as a finance facilitator and does not itself extend credit. Lender selection, rate, term, monthly payment, approval amount, and all other financing terms are determined by the funding lender based on the lender’s own credit criteria. Pre-approval offers expire 30 to 60 days from issue depending on lender and program. See your Dean McCrary Kia finance manager for complete details on any offer.
